Is your name working for you in your real estate blog?

You’ve finally decided to embark on the awesome adventure of starting a brand new real estate blog.  Congratulations!

But wait.  Stop right there.  You’re now thinking of what you should use for your domain name, right?  I’m here to tell, and in the video below explain, why your own name shouldn’t be used within your blogsite domain name.  Ok, if you’re a superstar, like Madonna, then be my guest, but otherwise, skip the name and dig a little deeper into the much more rational and SEO friendly domain name selection.

Here’s why your name should be omitted from your real estate blog domain and what you should use instead:

Takeaways from this video include:

  1. Don’t use your name in your url!
  2. I repeat, don’t use your name (or your nickname) in your url!
  3. Use Google Adwords Keyword Tool for research purposes
  4. Think outside the box

How to set up a self-hosted wordpress blog

Don’t have a blog? Don’t know how to even get one started? Fear not! Here’s a short tutorial on how you can set up your very own self-hosted wordpress blog in five easy steps.

Takeaways from this video include:

1. Do your keyword research! This is probably THE most important part of starting a blog that is actually going to produce the REAL results that you are looking for!

2. Choose a keyword-rich URL (if possible). Yes, most of the best ones have been long gone from being available, but by getting a little creative (and putting the long tail keyword phrases to use) you should be able to come up with a great URL that you can use for your blog.

3. Purchase your URL for at least two years. Search engines like to see that you are serious about your online endeavors – and that includes your URL. If you check out www.websitegrader.com, for instance, you’ll see that one of the items that they use to rate your site is by how long your URL’s life has left. Anything under a year and it’s a mark against you…

4. Correctly set up your hosting by getting help from the pros. This is probably the most delicate part of the all the steps – especially when choosing where your blog is going to be located… trust me – call the free support line that Godaddy offers – you’ll thank me!

5. Take time to choose a theme that will work not only for you, but for your viewers and the search engines. One thing I learned the hard way was that by having a nice, pretty site doesn’t equate to having a site that will garner you great results. For example, if your home page (also the “home base” of your theme), has lots of images but very little text that pertains to what you are providing, you’ll have a harder time getting results than if you did.
